The laundry operated on an analog model. Employees recorded information and notes on paper, which someone then entered into a spreadsheet – data sheets sometimes went missing, and errors and inconsistencies arose during transcription.
The lack of digital batch tracking meant that when a customer asked about the status of their order, an employee had to search for the batch by walking around the floor. It was also difficult to precisely determine completion dates – times were given approximately, and customers often waited longer than they should have.
Manual report preparation led to inconsistent data and errors in reporting. There was also no insight into energy consumption across the individual phases of the process, which made cost optimization impossible. Altogether, this translated into low efficiency, low quality, and customer dissatisfaction.
